It's not really surprising that a technology company would have a section
of their website dedicated to technology so rather than disappoint everyone
who is expecting a good gear-head talk, here we are.
As it says in the sidebar, we are adamant about the technology that we
use: we only use what works. We do not accept or reject any particular
solution until we've evaluated the appropriateness to the task and the
effectiveness of the solution with respect to accomplishing the task.
That may sound like corporate mission speak, but when you allow technical
people to explore beyond the marketing to find the reality of a technology,
your business needs and the health and effectiveness of your technical
staff are served much more effectively.
We design our products and projects for success and that means flexibility
and scalability because no matter how much planning is done, we rarely
know the breadth and extent of uses that will be found for any solution.
To effectively serve that need, we must have flexible and scalable technology.
The list of technologies at the right is heavy on the Unix background
and so are we. Actually, so is the Internet for that matter. The protocols
and tools that made the Internet what it is today are very Unix-centric
and often find themselves most comfortable and best performing on Unix.
We test our products on as many platforms as we can which usually means
Windows 9x, NT, 2000, MacOS, Mac OS X, and a variety of Unix flavors (*BSD,
Linux, Solaris, HP/UX). One of the things that we really like about the
Internet is the openness and availability to all kinds of users regardless
of what platform they prefer. We are very, very cautious in working with
technologies that limit the audience and we work very hard to mitigate
the negative effects of adopting cutting edge technologies.
Take a look at the short list of everyday technologies in the sidebar
to the right. If you don't see what you need, that doesn't mean that we
can't do it. It probably means that we've found an effective alternative
and are working successfully with that, but we're always evaluating the
landscape, so we'd love to hear from you.
