Java
What more needs to be written about Java. Every general purpose bookstore has
a bookcase full of Java books and there are countless magazines and articles
dealing with Java. If you are not aware of what Java is, then you should probably
leave this page with the bliss that can only come from having avoided some of
the marketing din that has tried over and over to assert that Java is the Answer-To-All-Your-Needs
and the silver bullett you've been waiting for.
Java is not a silver bullett and it is not The Answer.Java is a programming
language. Period.
It is a language with some very interesting properties and characteristics,
but it is still just a language.
We use Java because of the Object Oriented design, the availability across
platforms and the availability of high quality tools from very smart people.
IBM in it's AlphaWorks project has developed and posted hundreds of really useful
components, frameworks and tools.Sun is obviously pushing very hard and working
well within its hardware platform to create killer services. Java is available
on all of the serious web application servers and Java has a large and helpful
community willing to help out any level of user who really wants to learn.
