Open Source

Open Source has become a popular topic of conversation and the concept is as often mis-understood as it is understood. Open Source also elicits some of the most passionate reactions of any topic in the computer world.

I will not try to define Open Source or to give you it's essence here. That is well beyond the scope of this page and there are far more authoritative sources for information than this site.

I will tell you that Open Source technology and Open Source principles are in every facet of the work we do at Webfarm.

To begin with, we rely heavily on Open Source tools such as Apache, PHP, MySQL, Linux, FreeBSD, Postfix, Gimp, NetBeans and many other Open Source projects. These tools are all excellent and interesting additions to the work environment here and many of them, such as Apache are market leaders as well as technological leaders.

The principles of Open Source are deeply rooted in community development and demonstrating (rather than asserting) value. Open Source clearly demonstrates that the open, transparent approach to development yields strong, innovative and appropriate tools.

Webfarm participates in the Open Source world through contributing code and examples on different projects, participating in online discussions and forums and practicing the specific guidlines with respect to development and licensing that are the cornerstone of the Open Source Movement.
