Perhaps the literal definition of "broadside" is a bit harsh for
what is intended here, but what else would you call the opinion section for
Webfarm? The intent of the papers posted here is not specifically criticisim
or denunciation and I hope they will not be abusive, but I'm sure that some
of them will be strong. What you will find here is opinion on a wide range of
topics. The intent is to seed conversation and discussion about the topics,
either here or in the far corners of the wired world. This portion of the site
could quite possibly contain music (printed and digital) but I promise there
will be no discharge of weapons whatsoever.
Historian Howard Zinn says that "You can't be neutral on a moving train."
The writings here are not limited to technology issues, but offer a glimpse
of our perspective in a broader scope. We have opinions. It is disingenuous to
suggest that we can ever be completely objective about something so here is
the place where you can view the basis and the bias for our perspective.
If there is one thing that the online world does not need it's more punditry.
Everybody had an opinion on why the Internet was important and how it would
transform our world with the "New Economy". Now everybody writes how
the mighty "New Economy" has fallen and how terrible it was that all
the other pundits didn't see this coming.
Of course both extremes leave something to be desired so the only proper thing
to do is to inject more opinion into the world.
The following papers are intended to stir thought and conversation on the real
benefits and possibilities of the evolution of information technology. Whether
you consider these articles as white
papers or polemics
is a matter of perspective... and that in itself is fodder for conversation.
However you view these articles, we welcome and encourage your comments and
conversation.
